I am proud to introduce and support United Athletes for Peace, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to bringing people together through sport and promoting peace, inclusion, and opportunity.
What makes this mission so meaningful to me is the ability of sport to create connections where differences might otherwise keep people apart. On a team, people learn to trust one another, work towards a shared goal, and recognise each other’s strengths. Respect, discipline, leadership, and resilience become more than ideas—they become values practised every day.
For young people whose lives have been disrupted by conflict, displacement, or limited opportunities, the chance to participate in sport can be especially important. It can offer a sense of belonging, something positive to work towards, and encouragement to keep pursuing their ambitions.
United Athletes for Peace has already taken practical steps to support young athletes, including sponsoring the Romanian team’s racing suits for the 2026 World Rowing Under 19 Championships. We now want to build on this work by exploring opportunities to support athletes and young people affected by conflict and displacement.
Our next step is to identify a suitable club or partner organisation, understand its most pressing needs, and provide useful equipment within an achievable budget. Depending on the sport and the recipient’s priorities, this could include training clothing, lightweight waterproof jackets, rowing equipment, or other essential items that help people continue participating.
As we develop this initiative, our priorities are to:
● Provide practical support based on needs confirmed by local clubs and organisations.
● Help young athletes overcome equipment barriers that can prevent them from training and taking part.
● Build relationships that encourage inclusion, mutual respect, and connection through sport.

For an athlete facing difficult circumstances, access to the right equipment can be both useful support and a meaningful reminder that their ambitions have not been forgotten.
